Using the Cap: Pre Chemotherapy
Before chemotherapy is given it is essential to condition the scalp by pre cooling it.

For users with fine or average thickness hair the first Penguin Cold Cap is used for 20 minutes for this purpose. After 20 minutes remove the first Penguin Cold Cap and replace with a second Penguin Cold Cap.

For users with thick or Afro hair 2 pre cooling caps should be used. After 20 minutes remove the first Penguin Cold Cap and replace with a second Penguin Cold Cap. After a further 20 minutes remove the second Penguin Cold cap and replace with a third Penguin Cold Cap.

Using the Cap: Chemotherapy and Post Chemotherapy Time
For users with fine or average thickness hair 10 minutes after the second cap has been fitted start the chemotherapy. This means that chemotherapy starts after a total of 30 minutes from the start of wearing the cap. Change the second cap after a total of 35 minutes of use for a third cap. Change all subsequent caps every 35 minutes until all the caps have been used.

For users with thick or Afro hair 10 minutes after the third cap has been fitted start the chemotherapy. This means that chemotherapy starts after a total of 50 minutes from the start of wearing the cap. Change the third cap after a total of 35 minutes of use for a fourth cap. Change all subsequent caps every 35 minutes until all the caps have been used.

Using the Cap: On Completion of Cold Cap Therapy
Immediately after the final Penguin Cold Cap has been removed, the user should sit and rest for 5 minutes to allow for the slow and progressive flow of blood to the capillaries to return to normal and also to allow, in case it has been affected, the sense of balance to return to normal.
